Hello!
A few weeks ago we launched a new feature that ment we interview someone from each country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & ask their review on their countries entry!
Today we are interviewing James Elliot about Romania's 2014 entry!
James Elliot is a massive Eurovision fan from the United Kingdom! We asked James if he would mind us interviewing him and also reviewing Romania's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014! Romania's entry this year is Paula & Ovi who you may remember reprasented Romania in 2010 with the song "Playing With Fire" that placed in 3rd place in the grand final! This year they return with the song "Miracle". James has kindley agreed to answer our questions to him and review the Romania entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014! Read what he said to us below!
1. Hi James! Thank you for agreeing to this interview! Could you tell us how long you have been a Eurovision fan for?
James: Hi Jess! Thank you for interviewing me, I'm very excited! I've been a eurovision fan for all of my life! The first contest I remember watching was the 2003 contest, I was very young, but I remember watching Jemini come last, and how awful it had sounded! But since then, I've been watching ever since. I'd say the 2011 contest had me becoming the biggest fan of it! The songs were just so exciting and eventually I watched loads of eurovision videos from previous contests and that is how I am who I am today!
2. This year Romania will be represented by Paula & Ovi, How would you compare them to previous Romanian reprasentatives?
James: I like Paula & Ovi's return to the contest. This is a fantastic direction for Romania as they are known for their amazing pop music. Mandinga was a nice move and I was slightly underwhelmed with their entry last year. This song has something that none of the previous songs have been able to expose. It has a winning melody and I'm in love with Paula's voice and she no doubt has the best voice we have witnessed from Romania.
3. The song Paula & Ovi will be singing is "Miracle", Could you explain to us what you think off the song?
James: I love the song! If I was to remove my own country (United Kingdom) it'd be my winner because it's got a fantastic tune to it matched with kickass vocals. It has everything in it's favour and all it needs now is a good running order to really stand out from some huge threats and other fantastic club-based songs like Estonia.
4. As people know Paula & Ovi represented Romania back in 2010 with the song "Playing with fire", How would you compare Miracle to Playing With Fire?
James: A lot of people prefer 'Playing with Fire'.. I have to say I am not one of those people! I love Miracle and it's my favourite romanian song that they have sent to ESC of all time. What makes this song better than 'Playing with Fire' in my opinion, is the electricity and feel-good you feel. It takes eurovision in positive directions. If it wins, it's the next best song after Euphoria.. We need more songs like this at ESC so I admire the efforts made in this song, more so than the brilliant song back in 2010.
5. In 2010 we know that Paula & Ovi placed third in the final and getting third tieing Romania's best place in the Eurovision Song Contest, Do you think the duo will score high up on the scoreboard again?
James: I have no doubts. Of course, anything can happen, but from what I have heard and read, this is the song to watch out most for. It could even be a run-a-way winner.. What could stop them from scoring higher than 3rd and other high places is if the eurovision public prefer songs similar or alternative to them. These could be Estonia, United Kingdom and even France with the comedy side to it could snatch points everyone expects Romania to collect. However, I really hope Paula & Ovi score high again.
6. The second semi final of the Eurovision song contest 2014 is a pretty tough one, Do you think Romania will qualify for the final?
James: Yes, I agree with you! This has to be one of the toughest semi-finals I've known since watching.. We're seeing a change in standard every year and songs are getting more and more at winning standard. However, I definitely think they'll qualify. We're yet to see what other songs in that semi-final will pick, but I think this is a qualifier and could even win semi-final 2.
7. Finally we would like to ask you what are you most looknig foward to about the Eurovision song contest 2014?
James: I'm looking forward to the results. I always do! I see it being Romania's at the moment, but I really hope Molly places high just to slowly restore trust in the hearts of the United Kingdom. Our song has what it takes to get the top 10 but you truly never know.
