Last year we started the Eurovision Fan Reviews, were you the readers reviews the songs taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Today we bring you the 33rd Eurovision Fan Review for the 2015 contest.
The person who will be reviewing the next song in the Eurovision 2015 fan reviews is Harry from Ireland. Harry will be reviewing Austria's entry "I Am Yours" by The Makemakes.
You can read what Harry thinks of Austria's entry below!
1. Hello Harry, thanks for agreeing to this. How long have you been a Eurovision fan?
Harry: No problem Jess. I'm from Ireland, so Eurovision has always been a big part of my life. It was always on the TV growing up, and my love for it grew and grew from early on. My earliest Eurovision memory is actually watching the 50th Anniversary Concert. It's hard to believe it was 10 years ago already! I really became a mega fan of ESC after Lena won in Oslo with "Satellite". That was when I discovered eurovision.tv, and that ESC was a year round affair!
2. This year Austria selected their entry through the selection Wer singt für Österreich?. Did you watch the show? If so, what were some of your favourite moments?
Harry: I didn't actually watch the show, I have zero German... I probably should have considering I'm doing a review of the song that won... I picked Austria to review because I've always been interested in the way host countries approach their representative, especially this year after Conchita!
3. It was announced that The Makemakes would be representing Austria with the song "I Am Yours". What do you think of the song?
Harry: My first impression of the song was that the main singer reminded me of Jared Leto! I think it's a great song, with an uplifting chorus and well put together verses. It has a real ballad feel to it and will certainly stand out in the competition compared to vocal powerhouses such as Aminata from Latvia and Il Volo for Italy. It's a sweet little song, but quite similar to the songs from Ireland and Cyprus. What's going for it is the fact that they play all their own music. There's no backing track as far as I know. That will certainly make them unique in the Grand Final. I like to think it would have qualified from a semi anyway. All in all I like it and I hope it does well.
4. How would you compare "I Am Yours" to recent Eurovision entries from Austria?
Harry: Austria haven't had a great track record over the last number of year. Trakshittaz in 2012 was atrocious, and Natalia Kelly the year after wasn't much better. 'Rise Like a Phoenix' was certainly a diamond in the rough. I actually can't remember off the top of my head any other Austrian songs, so that goes to show you! It's strange that Austria is sending a ballad two year in a row, but 'I Am Yours' is a lot quieter and subdued than Conchita's number. They have similar beards though!
5. As we know Austria won the contest last year with "Rise Like A Phoenix" by Conchita Wurst. Where do you think Austria will place overall in this years contest?
Harry: Naturally Austria benefit from automatic qualification, but I have a feeling their good luck stops there. Although it's a nice song and will do well with the juries, it won't bode well with the majority of Europe. And of course winning two years in a row is almost unheard of nowadays. I predict that The Makemakers will place in the top half of the Grand Final, but won't make much of an impact on the overall run of things.
6. Finally, what are you most looking forward to about this years Eurovision Song Contest?
Harry: This year I will be hosting my first Eurovision party, which I'm very excited about. I'm hoping to convert some of my friends to Eurovision fans. As regards the contest, I hope an emphasis is placed on the fact that this is the 60th year of the ESC. I'm hoping it will be a celebration of all previous Eurovision winners and will maybe feature some of them... It's not too late to change the interval act ORF! I'm looking forward to seeing who the winner will be in a field of brilliant songs.
