Last
year we started the Eurovision Fan Reviews, where you the readers
review the songs taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest. And today we bring you the first Eurovision Fan Review for the 2015 contest!
The person who will be starting off the 2015 fan reviews is Harriet from the United Kingdom. She will be reviewing the Denmark Eurovision entry "The Way You Are" by Anti Social Media.
You can check out what she has to say about the entry below.
1. Hello Harriet, thank you for agreeing to do this review, how long have you been a Eurovision fan for?
Harriet: It's a pleasure to be interviewed! Well I have been a Eurovision fan for 3 years. I know it's not long enough but I'm a proud Eurovision fan. One great thing about being a Eurovision fan is that you get to discover artists that you haven't even heard of and it's better to see new faces than faces you hear of every day.
2. Denmark selected their Eurovision entry through Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2015, did you watch the show? if so what did you think?
Harriet: Unfortunately I didn't watch this years Dansk Melodi Grand Prix this year because I was busy doing other stuff the night of the Danish national final. I watched Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in 2013 and enjoyed the show, I watched a little in 2014 and I haven't watched it in 2015. I feel bad, but I may catch some clips!
3. The act that Denmark have selected to represent them this year is Anti Social Media, what do you think of their vocals?
Harriet: Their vocals are actually kind of sweet, they fit into the song really well. When I watched the live performance, I felt that the lead singer sang it really well. However in the live performance, I feel like they could have ditched the backing vocalists or replaced them because they sang a bit too loud, but that's backing singers for you.
4. The song that Anti Social Media will be singing at Eurovision is "The Way You Are", what do you think of their song?
Harriet: When I looked on Twitter, some people were being really unfair on them. I had to listen to the song before I could make my opinion on it. I listened to the song and then the first listen, I thought it was really cheesy. Then a few minutes later it got into my head and I couldn't stop singing it. I really like Denmark's song this year, it's really enjoyable and always puts you in a good mood!
5. How would you compare "The Way You Are", to recent Danish Eurovision entries?
Harriet: Well I must say it's not the best ever entry Denmark has sent, but I do think it's one of my favourites. My favourite Danish entry was in 2011 when A Friend in London sang "New Tomorrow" in Dusseldorf and Tim Schou got into a little bother when he dropped the f bomb live on TV. I use to like the recent Danish winner which was "Only Teardrops" but it started to get a little bit overrated and was clearly obvious it would win in Malmo. Last year's entry was a good standout song, but I think 9th was enough for Basim. Strangely enough I prefer "The Way You Are" to "Cliche Love Song" and "Only Teardrops".
6. Denmark will be taking part in the second half, of the first semi-final of Eurovision 2015. Do you think this a good spot for them to perform?
Harriet: I think it's a good place to be in the 2nd half of the Semi Final. I wish not to discuss block voting but with Sweden not in the same semi as them, they might struggle. But I think Finland might give them at least 10-12 points. Overall being in the 2nd Half should work for them because usually everyone hopes for their country to be in the 2nd half and not the 1st half.
7. This is a tough question to ask, but where do you think Denmark will place overall in this years contest?
Harriet: If I'm honest, I'm not 100% sure where Denmark will place. It's early days at this moment in time, so we shall just have to wait and see. There can be some surprise contenders in the mix so we shall have to wait and see. I'm keeping an eye on some countries especially Australia and UK but I think Denmark could be a dark horse.
8. Finally, what are you most looking forward to about this years contest?
Harriet: I'm looking forward to this contest especially since it's been 60 years of Eurovision and Austria will host an important Eurovision. I can't wait to see the UK act which we know nothing about and the BBC haven't even given us any clue. I think we will find out soon what the BBC are doing about our Eurovision act. But I'm looking forward to how ASM do in Vienna, hopefully really good!
