Hello!
A few weeks ago we launched a new feature that ment we interview someone from each country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & ask their review on their countries entry!
Today we are interviewing Nicholas Provenghi about The Netherlands 2014 entry!
Nicholas Provenghi is a Eurovision fan from the United States! We asked Nicholas if we could ask him a few questions about The Netherlands entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 and he has kindly agreed to answer our questions!
This years entry for The Netherlands is The Common Linnets who are formed up by members Ilse DeLange and Waylon who have formed to make the band for Eurovision! They will be entering with the song "Calm After The Storm".
You can read what Nicholas said to us below!
1. Hello Nick! Thank you for talking with us today! How long have you been a Eurovision fan?
Nicholas: I've been a Eurovision fan since about three days after the 2010 contest. At the time, I was really into Top Gear and was looking for an episode they'd done in Germany. Instead of finding the show, I found Lena's "Satellite!" Since then, I've been obsessed with the contest.
2. This year the Netherlands will be represented by The Common Linnets, How would you compare their vocals to recent Netherlands acts?
Nicholas: Dutch entrants are normally pretty good vocalists and judging by The Common Linnets' acoustic performance, they seem to fit that pattern well. I absolutely love their voices but I wish that Waylon was a little more apparent. Ilse overpowers him just a bit. Other than that, they're perfect.
3. The song The Common Linnets will be singing it "Calm After The Storm", Could you tell us what you think off the song?
Nicholas: The song is ridiculously beautiful. It's understated, simple, frank, and bewitching. The lyrics are probably the best of the year and I love how they portray an impossible-to-resolve conflict in a fresh and vivid way. There's no syrupy stuff here. Then the music is soothing but it builds up tension with it's restrained construction, which works really well with the lyrics. It's absolutely wonderful. It's my second-placed song of the year.
4. As we know The Netherlands went 7 years without making the final off the Eurovision Song Contest, but Anouk broke the run and made the final in 2013, Do you think The Common Linnets will make the finals this year?
Nicholas: I think that they'll be able to sweep the jury vote and get just enough televoters on their side to qualify.
5. Could we ask you where you think The Netherlands will place overall in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014?
Nicholas: This is tough because I think that this could finish almost anywhere on the scoreboard. A safe bet would be the lower left or upper right side of the scoreboard, 8th-16th but I wouldn't be surprised if they finished outside that range, either higher in the top 10 or lower.
6. Finally can we ask you what are you most looking foward to in Eurovision this year?
Nicholas: It might seem strange, but I'm looking forward to the build up of excitement, mostly. This is the first year where I got really involved in the fan community, so I'm really excited to share the experience with other fans! My favorite songs, along with the Netherlands, are Finland, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania, so I hope those entries do well.
