Hello!
A few weeks ago we launched a new feature that ment we interview someone from each country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & ask their review on their countries entry!
Today we are interviewing Christina Sin about Latvia's 2014 entry!
Christina (aka Cindy) is a Eurovision fan from Germany! We sent Christina some questions about Latvia's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & she has kindly agreed to answer them!
Latvia's Eurovision 2014 entry is Aarzemnieki, with the song "Cake To Bake".
Read what she said to us below!
1. Hello Cindy! Thanks for agreeing to do this! How long have you been a Eurovision fan?
Cindy: My pleasure! My first memories of Eurovision are from 2000 when my parents introduced me to it (I was just 8 at the time). It was also the first time Latvia participated in Eurovision and the band representing Latvia that year are one of my favorites of all time.
2. Latvia decided their Eurovision entry by a national final this year, Did you watch the selection? If you did what where your highlights?
Cindy: For the first time since 2008 I actually watched the Latvian NF and both Semi-finals. To be honest, I was a bit saddened by the state of Eurovision in Latvia at the moment.
I was probably most saddened by the voting figures. I remember entries winning with 60 000 or more votes in the past. However, this year Aarzemnieki only collected approx. 5000 votes from both - internet and televotes. However, my positive highlights of the show would be the interval act - Tenfold Rabbit - from Estonia and the postcards of the entries.
3. Latvia decided that Aarzemnieki would represent them at Eurovision 2014, What do you think of their vocals?
Cindy: I really don't know what to think. Their performance in the Latvian Semifinal (their most viewed live version on YouTube) was absolutely terrible.
In the National Final their singing was fine. However, the best live version (I think) is when they sang "Cake to Bake" outside at -10 degrees Celsius.
Jöran can sing really well at times, but not all the time. That worries me, because based on his vocal performance in the first semifinal Latvia may or may not qualify for the Final.
4. The song Aarzemnieki will be singing is "Cake To Bake", What do you think of the song?
Cindy: The lyrics of "Cake to Bake" are pretty ridiculous, I have to admit. However, I think song lyrics are secondary in Eurovision - many well placed songs in Eurovision have had ridiculous lyrics in the past (e.g. Satellite). "Cake to Bake" is memorable and I personally think it's the catchiest song in the contest this year. The song itself is very uplifting and I can imagine the whole stadium/hall being able to sing along with the catchy chorus.
5. As we know Latvia have not had the greatest results in the last few years Do you think Aarzemnieki will change that?
Cindy: That really depends on their live performance and staging in the semi-final. However, for the first time in 5 years I think Latvia has a shot at qualifying.
6. Where do you see Latvia placing overall in Eurovision 2014?
Cindy: Again, very hard to tell before first rehearsals in Copenhagen. The quality of entries this year is very even - there is no clear leader and there are very few "bad" entries. That being said, I believe Latvia could place as high as top 10 in the Final.
7. Finally what are you most looking forward to about Eurovision 2014?
Cindy: I am most looking forward to the performances, of course. I also want to see how well Denmark hosts Eurovision this year. Also - without a clear winner voting might actually be interesting this year.
