Hello!
A few weeks ago we launched a new feature that ment we interview someone from each country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & ask their review on their countries entry!
Today we are interviewing Kim Mackenzie about Switzerland's 2014 entry!
Kim is a massive Eurovision fan from the United Kingdom! We sent Kim some questions about Switzerland's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & she has kindly answered them for us!
Switzerland's entry in Eurovision 2014 is Sebalter with the song "Hunter Of Stars". Read what Kim said to us below!
1. Hey Kim! Thanks for agreeing to do this! How long have you been a Eurovision fan?
Kim: I remember watching it when I was younger around 1997/1998 but I really got into it from 2006 onwards, and my fandom grows every year!
2. Switzerland choose their entry through the national selection Die Große Entscheidungsshow, Did you watch the show? If you did what where your highlights?
Kim: I did not have the opportunity to watch the National Finals this year as I was away travelling for several months. I do however remember a friend of mine informing me that the Swiss entry had been chosen so I had a little listen to it back in February!
3. It was announced Sebalter would represent Switzerland in Eurovision 2014, What do you think of his vocals?
Kim: I think Sebalter has a nice voice, very agreeable and pleasant enough. He seems to have grown stronger in more recent performances in Amsterdam and London, and whilst his vocals are not going to set Copenhagen alight, with his charm and cuteness I think he will have quite a few people humming along, or rather whistling!
4. The song Sebalter will be singing is "Hunter Of Stars", What is your opinion off the song?
Kim: I have to say I love this song! It's fun, it's catchy, it's melodic and I think the whistles, hand claps and violin make it something different from the rest of the entrants. It is not typically Eurovision-esque but the contest needs a diversity in styles and genres and Sebalter will be bringing his own brand of folk pop to Copenhagen! I think it has a nice concept and I also love the story of how Sebalter came up with the tune, whistling it into his iphone whilst travelling on a Greyhound bus in the States last summer.
5. How would you compare "Hunter Of Stars" to recent Switzerland Eurovision entries?
Kim: Switzerland have put in a variety of different songs over the years (anyone remember Vampires Are Alive from 2007?!) but with very little success, only getting through the semis in 2011 with Anna Rossinelli only to then come last in the final. The Swiss entries seem to have been neither bold nor contemporary, and Sebalter is following this pattern but I sincerely hope he has more success!
6. Switzerland will be performing 12th in semi final two off Eurovision 2014, Do you think this is a good place for them to perform?
Kim: Yes, it is only a few performances from the end so hopefully will remain in the audience's mind when it comes to the televote.
7. Where do you think Switzerland will place overall?
Kim: Being realistic, I think if Switzerland make it into the final then that is an achievement, especially seeing as they are in the tougher of the two semis. Sebalter is one of my favourites for this year, but I get the feeling Europe will either love all the whistling or hate it! Having said that, they voted for Alexander Rybak with his violin in 2009, so let's hope Sebalter can channel some of that and do well!
8. Finally, what are you most looking foward to about Eurovision 2014?
Kim: Oh, everything! Seeing which way Europe are going to go - will we see our first male soloist win since 2009? Who will be the dark horse? Will the favourite romp to victory? It really is quite unpredictable sometimes! I'm looking forward to seeing how Molly from the UK does, as it is the first time in a while that the UK have a good song!
