Hello!
A few weeks ago we launched a new feature that ment we interview someone from each country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & ask their review on their countries entry!
Today we are interviewing Kim Mackenzie about Iceland's 2014 entry!
Kim is a big Eurovision fan from the United Kingom! We sent Kim some questions about Iceland's entry for Eurovision 2014 and she has kindly answered them for us!
Iceland's entry for Eurovision 2014 is the band Pollapönk with the song "No Prejudice". Read what Kim said to us below!
1. Hello Kim! Thanks for agreeing to do this! How long have you been a Eurovision fan?
Kim: I have early memories of watching the contest back in 1997 and 1998 when I was much younger, but I have been really into it since 2006.
2. This year Iceland choose their entry through the selection Söngvakeppnin 2014, Did you watch the selection? If you did what where your highlights?
Kim: I must admit that I did not watch the Icelandic national final. In fact, I was travelling abroad for several months so found it hard to follow any of them except a bit of Melodifestivalen.
3. The artists choosen to represent Iceland in Eurovision 2014 are Pollaponk, What do you think of their vocals?
Kim: Well, I think their vocals are fairly sturdy if you like. It is not a song that is really designed to show off vocal talent so I can only say that the vocals are good enough for the song.
4. The song they will perform at Eurovision is "No Prejudice", What do you think off the song?
Kim: First, I like the message of inclusivity and tolerance that it promotes. I have always been a fan of music that has a deeper purpose, and that projects a positive and instructive message to listeners. However, I feel the jokey nature of the song diminishes the strength of the message, and merely results in what I'd call 'novelty punk' which I do not think is going to do well at Eurovision.
5. Originally "No Prejudice" was sung in Icelandic, Do your prefer the song now it is in English? Or did you perfer it in Icelandic?
Kim: I do prefer the English version, mostly because it is then comprehensible by the mass audience! I think if the Icelandic version was sung in the contest, it would be completely lost on the public.
6. Iceland will be performing 5th in semi final one off Eurovision 2014, Do you think this is a great place for them to perform? & do you think they will make the final?
Kim: 5th is probably not an ideal place to be performing in a field of 16 acts. They are likely to be forgotten about and I think their best shot is just scraping through as the 10th qualifier.
7. Where do you think Iceland will place overall in Eurovision 2014?
Kim: I would predict that they will fail to make it past the semi final stage! But then again, Europe does throw up some surprises, although I would doubt the juries will be a fan of this entry.
8. Finally what are you most looking foward to about Eurovision 2014?
Kim: Everything, I am very excited! I am mostly looking forward to seeing what sort of musical genre and theme Europe will go for this year - for example, there has not been a solo male winner since Alexander Rybak in 2009 so I think it is time for a new one! There are many entries I am keen on so I am intrigued to see how they will all fare.
