Hello!
A few weeks ago we launched a new feature that ment we interview someone from each country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & ask their review on their countries entry!
Today we are interviewing Nicholas Provenghi about Finland's 2014 entry!
Nicholas (aka Nick) is a massive Eurovision fan from the United States! We sent Nicholas a few questions about Finland's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & he has kindly answered them for us!
Finland's entry in Eurovision 2014 is Softengine with the song "Something Better". Read what Nicholas said to us below!
1. Hello Nick! Thanks for agreeing to do this! How long have you been a Eurovision fan?
Nick: My pleasure! I've been a fan since just after the 2010 contest but I’ve been following it really closely since 2013.
2. This year Finland choose their entry by the selection UMK, Did you watch the show?
Nick: If you did what where your highlights? I watched every episode of UMK this year! It was the best national final, in my opinion. Almost all of the songs were amazing, but a few highlights for me would be "Selja," "Kertakäyttösydän," "Sängyn reunalla," "Top of the World," and my favorite song of the 2014 season, "Shining Bright."
3. It was announced Softengine would be representing Finland in Eurovision 2014, What do you think off their vocals?
Nick: I think that Topi's vocal is rough in a really nice way. It contrasts against the really slick nature of the song.
4. The song Softengine will be singing is "Something Better", What do you think off the song?
Nick: I absolutely love the song! It's my favorite this year. There's a lot going on that isn't always too obvious and the song is just really clever. It's also reminiscent of a lot of the music I listen to outside of Eurovision, which is something really cool, to me.
5. The song was written by two off the band members (Topi Latukka & Henri Oskár), Do you think it helps entering the contest with a song that the artist have written themselves?
Nick: Most of the time, it would help, since singer-songwriter songs tend to be a little more genuine than a song written by like seven people. That said, the quality of the song is most important, so if that comes from a committee of producers or an artist, I'm just looking for things that are good.
6. Finland will be performing 8th in semi final two, What do you think their chances off making the final are?
Nick: I think they have a good chance! They have a really universal appeal that'll help them get votes from both juries and televoters.
7. Where do you think Finland will place overall in the contest?
Nick: I'd like to think top 10, but anything's possible, I guess.
8. Finally, What are you mot looking foward to about Eurovision 2014?
Nick: Honestly, I'm looking forward most to the shows themselves. I'm really excited to see what Denmark will do this year.
