Hello!
A few weeks ago we launched a new feature that ment we interview someone from each country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & ask their review on their countries entry!
Today we are interviewing James Elliott about Azerbaijan's 2014 entry!
James is a Eurovision fan from the United Kingdom! We asked James if we could send him a few question's about Azerbaijan's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 and James has kindly answered them for us!
Azerbaijan's entry this year is Dilara Kazimova who has tried to represent Azerbaijan twice in the past and came runner-up both times, 2014 would finally be the year Dilara got her chance to perform on stage and she brings with her the song "Start A Fire". Read what James said to us below!
1. Hi James! Thanks for doing this! How long have you been a Eurovision fan?
James: I have been a fan since 2011 and I have fallen in love with the contest ever since! Especially in 2012, that was the year I started to watch the semi finals, and it's brought me here today!
2. As we know Azerbaijan choose their Eurovision entry through Böyük Səhnə, Did you watch any off the show? If you did what were your highlights?
James: I did watch the show! My highlight was Dilara Kazimova singing 'Mercy' by Duffy. Thats when I thought: 'Wow, this is the winner.' In my opinion, she was by far the best vocalist, she never sang a bum note, I think she's fantastic and she showed it always in Böyük Səhnə.
3. It was announced Dilara Kazimova would represent Azerbaijan, How would you compare her vocals to previous years?
James: In my opinion, Dilara Kazimova is the best vocalist Azerbaijan have sent. Before, my favourite was Sabina Babayeva, but Dilara's voice is up my street, pure, clear, I think she's Azerbaijan's best entry, I hope she wins, she truly is my favourite contestant and song this year.
4. The song Dilara will be singing is "Start A Fire", Could you tell us what you think off the song?
James: I can't explain enough how much I love it, I love how relaxing and beautiful it sounds, the lyrics are so meaningful and Dilara's vocals are flawless, I can't wait to hear her live in Copenhagen, Böyük Səhnə was an example of what she's capable of so it's going to be so exciting, I really hope we have our winner here because the song is something different and she's a DIVA!
5. In the last few years Azerbaijan have had a few claims against them in the contest, Do you think this will effect Dilara's result?
James: If you ask me, the claims are noncense. And all the fuss won't come to anything. Dilara is gonna be flying in Copenhagen, I genuinelly think she can win this. I so hope she does, I don't think I've said that yet have I?;)
6. Azerbaijan will be performing 8th in the first semi final off 2014, is that a good spot for them to perform so you think?
James: I think out of the first 8 performing, Dilara stands out the most, the song will qualify regardless of where it goes, but 8th is a solid position, but she will stand out and shine! I so believe.
7. Where do you think Dilara will place overall in the contest?
James: I have predicted this year all the songs and where they'll place (video coming soon on that!) And I think she will come 2nd. I'm predicting Romania to win the whole thing, but Dilara I think is going to get second, but I still believe she can win.
8. Finally what are you most looking foward to about Eurovision 2014?
James: Dilara of course! And Molly, because the United Kingdom could win it too! It's such a good year this year, I think its the strongest year yet! Also, I hope you don't mind Jessie, I'd like to take the time to ask people to check out my eurovision top 37 on my youtube channel EurovisionJamesUK!
