Hello!
A few weeks ago we launched a new feature that ment we interview someone from each country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 & ask their review on their countries entry!
Today we are interviewing Martin Hart about Georgia's 2014 entry!
Martin is a massive Eurovision fan from the United Kingdom & will be attending Eurovision 2014! We sent Martin a few question's about Georgia's entry in Eurovision 2014 & he has kindly answered them for us!
Georgia's entry in Eurovision 2014 is The Shin & Mariko with the song "Three Minutes To Earth". Read what Martin said to us below!
1. Hello Martin! Thanks for agreeing to do this! How long have you been a Eurovision fan?
Martin: No problem, thanks for asking me. I've been a Eurovision fan since 2002 when I was 16. I don't remember much about my early Eurovision experiences because I didn't care much for the contest back then, but my love for Eurovision has been growing slowly since 2006.
My love for Eurovision went to a new level when I finally got to experience it live last year. That was my first Eurovision actually being there in person and I'll never forget it. Eurovision is a huge part of me these days.
2. This year Georgia will be represented by The Shin & Mariko, What do you think of their vocals?
Martin: The vocals within the song are actually quite good because the harmonies work well... I'm not sure about the yodeling though! There are better and worse vocals this year.
3. The song The Shin & Mariko will be singing is "Three Minutes To Earth", What do you think off the song?
Martin: It's OK... it's a nice little song, but it's not great to be honest. Sadly I think it's one of those that will get lost in the crowd, but at the same time it all depends on the stage performance.
It lacks a real clear message compared to a song like Firelight (Malta) where the message is clear. I think Georgia also might have a problem as they're not traditionally one of the countries whose song connects with fans in the same way that the 'bigger' countries such as Sweden, Denmark and Finland do.
4. Could you tell us how you would compare Georgia's 2014 song to their previous entries?
Martin: Just when I thought Georgia couldn't send a worse song than Anri Jokhadze in 2012 they managed it. I'm really disappointed with Georgia this year because they're a country I always look forward to in a bizarre way.
In a way it's unfair to judge Georgia because they're one of the newer countries to join the Eurovision family, so in that regard they're probably still finding their feet a bit, but I think their past entries such as Sophie Nizharadze in 2010, Edrine in 2011 and Nodi & Sophie last year actually show that Georgia have the potential to be a really strong country. I guess in a way it's down to us as fans because maybe we don't always show Georgia the respect they deserve, but if the country is sending rubbish songs then what do they expect?
5. Georgia will be performing 4th in the second semi final, Do you think this is a good place for them to perform?
Martin: No, because traditionally performing early it's harder to get to the Final - even more so now because the standard of songs in Eurovision these days is so high.
You can argue that Georgia have maybe been a little unlucky getting such an early draw, but in all honesty I don't think it will matter anyway because although they're in the weaker semi-final I still can't see them going through, and that's disappointing because for a newer country their record of qualifying for finals is actually very good (only missing out in 2012.)
In the back of my mind I hope they do well, but my heart is saying there are too many stronger songs in the 2nd semi-final (the likes of Finland, Norway, Belarus, Switzerland, Romania and Austria), so sadly I think Georgia might miss out again this time round.
6. Where do you think Georgia will place overall?
Martin: I would say towards the bottom of the ranking in the 2nd semi-final. Somewhere from 12th downwards realistically, but bear in mind this is the Eurovision Song Contest... as Armenia proved last year, anything can happen on the night!
7. Finally, What are you most looknig foward to about Eurovision 2014?
Martin: I think the more appropriate question would be what am I NOT looking forward to about Eurovision 2014. It's Eurovision, it's what I live for, it's one of the few things in life that I genuinely love. Eurovision week is always my favourite time of year and this year is no different.
I think from a personal level, the thing I'm most looking forward to about Eurovision 2014 is simply being back in Copenhagen. I had 4 wonderful days in Copenhagen for Eurovision 2013, and really when Denmark won in Malmo there was never any doubt that I wasn't going to be there this year.
I also didn't get to see the British entry last year, Bonnie Tyler... so that's definitely something I'm looking forward to most this year. Of the 3 tickets I have, I honestly think the Grand Final dress rehearsal one means more to me than the 2 semi-final tickets... because having that dress rehearsal ticket means I'll get to see Molly singing live, and as a UK Eurovision fan that means the world to me!
I think as well I'm really looking forward to meeting some of the Eurovision fans who I have become friends with over the past year. The people I have met have not only become my friends, they're like a family to me... I love them more than anything, so to actually get the chance to meet them is amazing - to do it at Eurovision is just mind-blowing.
If I can just pick out one person though, and that's Mila Kovalj. Mila is Montenegro's delegation host this year and I'm so pleased for her because I've never come across someone who truly loves Eurovision more than Mila. Mila and I share a special friendship and if I get the chance to meet Mila in Copenhagen I'll tell her that. Mila is great fun, she's a lovely person to talk to and in a way she brings out the best in me... but sorry Mila, Andy Murray still rules!
