A few months ago Uzari & Maimuna were selected to represent Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 - which will be held in Vienna, Austria - with the song "Time".
Today we are very excited to bring you an interview with both Uzari & Maimuna, about their upcoming participation in this years Eurovision Song Contest. You can check out the full interview below!
1. Hello Uzari & Maimuna, thank you for agreeing to this interview. How does it feel to be representing Belarus at this years’ Eurovison Song Contest?
(Both of them say the same thing for this one): “We didn’t expect it, but we had certainly worked hard and hoped even harder for it to win. It can be the mood of the jury and the audience; the sort of music that’s popular at the time, other artistic influences, but luckily for us, we were in the right place at the right time. Yes, ‘Time’!”
2. The song you will be representing Belarus with is called "Time", Could you explain to us what the song is about?
Uzari: it’s about how there’s never enough time, especially in today’s fast-paced, stressful, technological world. We should make the most of every moment and never be afraid to be honest and strive for what you want.
3. How did the idea come together for you two to enter the Belarus Eurovision Selection together?
Maimuna: We’ve been friends for a while and talked about it forever, so when Uzari had the song and it suited the violin, we knew. It was ‘Time.’
4. How did you both react when you were announced as the winners of the Eurovision selection?
Uzari: Amazement. I think: my mind went blank!
Maimuna: I think I’m still trying to process it!
5. What are you both most looking forward to about your Eurovision experience?
Uzari: It’s a dream come true, to be part of the world’s largest live entertainment event.
Maimuna: I agree. I’m looking forward to every part of it – being in Vienna, meeting the performers from the other 39 countries, rehearsals…..
6. Have you followed Eurovision in the past? If so what are some of your favourite Eurovision songs?
Uzari: Yes, I do, and have followed it for years. After being in the 2011 team for Belarus, I also participated in the Eurofest national finals in 2012 and 2013 and co-wrote ‘Sokol’ for our Junior Eurovision participant Nadezdha in 2014.
Maimuna: Yes, of course – we’d all sit in front of the TV and watch it, especially when Belarus was part of it.
7. Have you listened to any of the other songs taking part in this years’ Eurovision? If so what where some of your favourites?
Maimuna: It’s impossible to pick a favourite. At the moment I’m listening to all of the songs that are in the same semi-final that we are and they are all hugely impressive.
Uzari: I’m with Maimuna on that one. Then, when you listen to the other semi-final songs, and the Big Five countries’ entries and Australia – each one blows me away.
8. What do you both like to get up to in your spare time?
Uzari: At the moment I don’t have much time, but composing and playing music isn’t a job, it’s a passion, so you’ll usually find me at the keyboard. Or boxing in the gym, when I need to work off some energy. And with my family and friends, of course.
Maimuna: I like to play with my children (Diana and Philip) and have fun with them; otherwise I’m really into cakes and chocolate!
9. Finally, is there message you would like to give the readers of ESC-Starz?
Uzari: Thank you for supporting us and we hope to see you in Vienna!
Maimuna: Hi everyone and we hope that you’ll like what we do on stage at Eurovision!
